Global Research
Funding Canadian Research for Global Impact
Global Research projects have the potential for major global impact - to be "a beacon for Canada" in the global stem cell community - and have identified tangible deliverables readily translatable to human health. Projects are aligned with at least one of SCN's existing areas of strategic interest in Cellular Therapeutics, Pharmacological Applications or Technology Development and build on internationally recognized Canadian expertise and strengths in the stem cell field. These projects are expected to be the foundation for new major Canadian and/or international initiatives in the stem cell field.
Global Research projects are multidisciplinary initiatives that pursue integrated goal-directed programs. Projects are funded for 3.5 years (from October 1, 2011 to March 31, 2015) with a total envelope of up to $3M per team. These projects are actively managed and have high requirements for engagement of partners and international collaborators.
Selection of Global Research projects is based on the recommendations of an external international review panel which evaluates proposals against the following criteria: relevance to SCN Global Research program and research excellence, partnering and sustainability, project management plan, knowledge exchange & technology transfer strategy and networking.
Application deadline for this program is October 13, 2010 for the Letter of Intent. For full details download the Global Research program and application guidelines. Please note that to facilitate the establishment of strong working teams, SCN will provide, where necessary and justified, financial support in the amount of max. $25,000 to facilitate pre-LOI meetings and discussions between investigators and with potential partners.
