Commercialization
The Network’s commercialization strategy is driven by SCN’s mandate to support the commercialization of its funded research, and by a desire to act more broadly as a catalyst for commercialization across the whole Canadian stem cell research sector.
Since 2005, the Network has re-aligned its research program to conform to the three main routes to market (cells, drugs, and tools), and all projects have clear deliverables, milestones and outcomes within the context of individual product development strategies. Read more about the exciting technology coming out of these projects, and other commercial opportunities arising in the labs of SCN researchers.
SCN also provides financial support for IP filing (up to 50% of the first $10,000 of filing costs), commercialization impact grants (up to $75,000 over 1 year) to support commercially relevant proof-of-principle studies and, upon request, access to product development and IP expertise.
In partnership with many of the Network’s technology transfer offices, SCN has produced a standard IP Toolkit. This toolkit can considerably reduce the time spent negotiating “boilerplate” terms and conditions and leave parties free to focus on field of use, performance and consideration.
